Summary

For people trying their first testosterone booster, Nugenix Total-T provides an old-fashioned formulation, yet relatively good choice of T-boosting ingredients. It stands out from the other choices in the market by including vitamins & minerals, natural aphrodisiacs and performance-enhancers as well. It also gets an extra point for making sure all its ingredients’ benefits are well-documented in research and for having Tongkat Ali extract (a rare ingredient not found in many T boosters) and antioxidant polyphenols blend for energy & endurance. All in all, it is a good product with decent price, but it misses out on some potent ingredients like D-AA and Ashwagandha. Besides, dosage of Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia Extract) seems low at 100mg. Overall, Nugenix Total-T, (priced at $69.99) is more potent than Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster, however it is weaker than Nugenix Ultimate($89.99) & Nugenix Maxx ($169.99).

Pros

  • Clear transparent formulation: No proprietary blends
  • Also acts as libido & sexual performance support: Besides testosterone-boosting ingredients, also contains natural aphrodisiacs and natural performance-enhancing ingredients that may help in boosting libido & male performance.
  • All-natural ingredients: No risk of any serious side effects or health complications
  • No prescription needed: It is an OTC supplement that doesn’t need a doctor’s prescription
  • Clinically backed ingredients: Good blend of clinically backed ingredients (especially boron, zinc, Tongkat ali and fenugreek) works on increasing the levels of free testosterone as well as the total testosterone
  • Safe steroids alternative for muscle growth: It’s likely to give you some benefits that a synthetic anabolic can offer, without side-effects
  • Anti-estrogen benefits: Boron in Total-T acts as anti-estrogen/estrogen regulator. 10mg. Boron is sufficient & more than similar competitors
  • Energy & Endurance Benefits: Contains an antioxidant blend for energy & endurance
  • Decent value for money
  • Overall, good choice for men aged 30-50 years

Cons

  • Some underdosed ingredients: The amount of Zinc and Tongkat Ali is underwhelming. In fact, it’s actually below the average dose needed to provide results.
  • Lacks some powerful ingredients: Missing out on some powerful ingredients such as ashwagandha and D Aspartic acid (present in competing products like TestoPrime or Prime Male)
  • Old-fashioned formula: Overall seems an old-fashioned formula as compared to latest T boosting formulae in the market. Checkout our recommended best-sellers in Testosterone supplements.
  • Mixed user reviews: User reviews seem mixed, so may not work for some men

Introduction

Nugenix Total-T claims to be scientifically formulated, new-and-improved formula designed to help men, especially 40 and older to increase lean muscle mass, and boost free & total testosterone levels.

For a while, Nugenix’s men’s health supplements have been gaining a significant amount of popularity. This product line is most famous for its ability to boost testosterone production in men as well as for libido/virility boosting. It includes many different versions including Nugenix PM with ZMA, GH Boost, Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster, Nugenix Maxx, Estro Regulator and of course, the famous Nugenix Total-T.

As sellers and product reviewers of various bodybuilding supplements and testosterone boosters, we haven’t tried every single product out there, but we can tell a lot about it through its formulation. When it comes to testosterone boosters, only a few products get their blend right and typically, we try to avoid proprietary blends.

Proprietary blends in testosterone supplements are often criticized for lacking transparency, as they don’t disclose the exact amounts of individual ingredients. This can make it difficult for consumers to understand what they are taking and to compare products effectively, potentially leading to ineffectiveness or safety concerns. More information on this issue can be found here.

The right blend should include scientifically-backed ingredients in the correct proportions to ensure that they work together to maximize testosterone production. Nugenix Total-T, with its transparent label, allows us to see exactly what’s inside, and while it includes some effective ingredients, it still follows a somewhat traditional approach that might not be as potent as some newer formulations.

What sets Nugenix apart from its competitors?

Nugenix Total-T sets itself apart from many competitors by offering a transparent label, allowing consumers to see exactly what they are getting, while still carrying solid, clinically backed testosterone boosting ingredients. This transparency builds trust and allows for a more informed decision.

That really puts this product apart from several cookie-cutter type Testosterone boosters available on Amazon.com, Walmart.com etc. which might contain the same ingredients, but under-dosed, in a proprietary blend.

However, while Nugenix Total-T includes some well-known testosterone-boosting ingredients, it still relies on an old-fashioned formulation that might not provide the cutting-edge benefits that some of the latest products in the market offer.

Interestingly, Nugenix carries other potent, advanced versions of this product as well, ie. Nugenix Ultimate (formerly Nugenix Total-T Ultimate) and Nugenix Maxx.

Nugenix Total-T vs Other Nugenix Versions

Nugenix Total-T vs Nugenix Ultimate (or Nugenix Total T-Ultimate)

Based on ingredients & user reviews, Nugenix Ultimate (or Nugenix Total T-Ultimate) can be considered more powerful & potent version of Nugenix Total-T.

Nugenix Total-T vs Nugenix Ultimate Ingredients Comparison

  • D-Aspartic Acid 3000 mg (only in Nugenix Ultimate, NOT in Nugenix Total-T)
  • Fenugreek Extract (Trigonella foenum-graecum/ 50% saponins) 700 mg (Both versions have this ingredient)
  • Boron 10 mg  (Both versions have this ingredient)
  • Epimedium grandiflorum 650 mg (only in Nugenix Ultimate, NOT in Nugenix Total-T)
  • Mucuna Pruriens Extract (Mucuna pruriens/ 20% L-Dopa) 250 mg (only in Nugenix Ultimate, NOT in Nugenix Total-T)
  • Maca Root (lepidium meyenii) PWD 250 mg (only in Nugenix Ultimate, NOT in Nugenix Total-T)
  • Stinging Nettle Extract (Urtica diocia) (root) 360 mg (only in Nugenix Ultimate, NOT in Nugenix Total-T)
  • Tongkat Ali 100:1 Extract (Eurycoma longifolia jack) (root) 200 mg (Both versions have this ingredient)

Overall, Nugenix Ultimate is more potent & effective than Nugenix Total-T and is also one of the fewest testosterone boosters which combine Mucuna pruriens (dopaminergic T boosting ingredient) and D-AA (latest researched T boosting ingredient).

Nugenix Ultimate seems to provide better value for money, despite it being more expensive than its original counterpart Nugenix Total-T, as it contains latest ingredients like D-AA, Maca, Mucuna Pruriens, Epimedium etc. making it a more comprehensive Testosterone booster that can be used for muscle building, libido & performance in bedroom, and even for weight loss.

It is formulated better & more potent than Nugenix Total-T. For full list of various T Boosters for men for various purposes – bodybuilding, ED, libido & male performance, anti-aging, weight loss etc., Read PowerandBulk.com’s guide to best T boosters for men.

Nugenix Total-T vs Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster

Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster is weaker than Nugenix Total-T, lacking key ingredients like Boron, Tongkat Ali, and elevATP Blend, and containing only Testofen Fenugreek Extract and Tribulus terrestris.

Despite being priced similarly to Nugenix Total-T at $69.99 per bottle, it offers less value for money, especially since similar supplements are available on Amazon at a lower cost.

By simply combining a Fenugreek extract and a Tribulus Terrestris supplement, one could replicate the benefits of the Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster, making Nugenix Total-T a better value for the price.

Nugenix Total-T vs Nugenix Maxx

Nugenix Maxx, also known as Total-T Maxx, stands out in the market as an ashwagandha-based testosterone supplement, boasting a unique combination of patented ingredients like 600 mg of Ashwagandha, 600 mg of Fenugreek, and 500 mg of Shilajit purified extract.

This makes Nugenix Maxx more diverse and powerful than Nugenix Total-T, and it’s considered the best testosterone supplement in the Nugenix product lineup. However, its high price of $169.99 per bottle for 30 servings makes it the most expensive option from Nugenix, leading some to seek cost-effective alternatives like TestoPrime.

Should you buy Nugenix Total-T?

If you are looking to build muscle, energy and lose weight while attempting to raise testosterone levels, we would recommend sticking with Nugenix Total-T and starting with a healthy diet first. Eating ginger, healthy fats (like fatty fish), lean proteins, and vegetables can help enhance your testosterone boosting efforts.

For more powerful bedroom performance or treating issues like low libido, erectile dysfunction etc., it’s better to go for Nugenix Ultimate instead of Nugenix Total-T as that might work better for these goals.

Whatever your specific goal be, we would definitely recommend focusing on regular physical activity. Studies have shown that increased physical activity is more beneficial than calorie restriction in increasing testosterone levels. Resistance training, such as weightlifting, can also be beneficial in the short term for boosting Testosterone levels.

Finally, take a quality testosterone booster, like anything from the Nugenix lineup, depending on your specific goal. We recommend against Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster though which is their weakest formulation.

Nugenix Total-T Ingredients?

Each ingredient has a part in creating the Nugenix Total-T and giving it its T-boosting properties.

So, let’s dig deeper into these ingredients and find out the role they play in boosting the testosterone levels in the body:

  1. Vitamin B Complex

In the world of supplements, Vitamin B is one of the most prescribed, and rightfully so. It’s known to treat many problems like exhaustion, muscle aches, constant fatigue, weakness etc.

So far, the relationship between testosterone and Vitamin B isn’t exactly clear. However, one animal study shows promising results and a possible connection between Vitamin B and testosterone receptor production, which can help enhance testosterone’s action in the body. (Sources : www.pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6727359/ , www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5987952/  )

  1. Zinc

Unlike Vitamin B, the connection between zinc and testosterone is clear as day. Zinc has been well-acknowledged as a testosterone-boosting supplement and is commonly prescribed for men with testosterone deficiency.

Most T-boosting supplements are rich with zinc, which makes it a surprise that Nugenix Total-T has only 1 mg of this Testosterone-boosting ingredient.

For context, the recommended dosage for adults is around 11mg per day while the maximum tolerable dose is 40mg. This makes the small dose of zinc in this testosterone supplement quite strange as it’s far less than the safe dose for consumption, however several other T boosters in the market are also using smaller doses as long as there are other T boosting ingredients that all work in synergy.

For illustration, here is an ingredients comparison table of 3 popular T boosters – Nugenix Total T vs Prime Male vs TestoPrime.

  1. L-Citrulline Malate

L-Citrulline Malte is a popular choice of amino acids that are added to various health supplements.

Its main action comes down to its ability to improve blood flow in different areas of the body and make sure enough oxygen is being delivered to those areas, including muscles.

That’s why L-Citrulline Malate is popularly used to treat erectile dysfunctions and give a boost to muscular performance.

It’s also believed that its blood-flow-boosting property can play a role in increasing testosterone production by influencing pituitary gland (LH) & testicles.

  1. Fenugreek Extract

It’s always a good sign when the Fenugreek extract is present in a T-boosting supplement.

This ingredient has the well-known advantage of increasing the levels of free testosterone & boosting weight loss and enhancing effects of resistance training in men.

Fenugreek has long been used to boost testosterone levels in elderly men, but newer, more powerful ingredients like D-AA and Ashwagandha have become more common in testosterone supplements.

In Nugenix Total-T and similar products like TestoPrime, a more effective, patented version of Fenugreek called Testofen is used. This standardized extract is carefully extracted and standardized to its content of fenusides, saponins with a structure similar to steroid hormones.

When ingested, they act like a steroid hormone, binding to a protein in the blood called SHBG, thereby releasing and activating a percentage of the testosterone that’s bound to this protein.

  1. Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma Longifolia Extract)

Saying that Tongkat Ali has been used in treating male performance disorders & ED issues for a long time is an understatement.

This ingredient doesn’t only boost testosterone production but also has potential of improving overall fertility by improving spermatogenesis and men’s muscular health, energy levels and overall strength.

However, Nugenix Total T supplement only has 100 mg of Tongkat Ali. To put things in perspective, studies have found that the body needs around 400mg of this supplement to benefit from its testosterone-boosting benefit, although one study recommend 200 mg. per day for Testosterone boosting effects. (Source: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21671978/ )

  1. elevATP Blend

It’s a patented blend that consists of peat extract along with apple fruit extract.

The main action of this blend is increasing ATP production, the energy currency in the body along with some antioxidant effects.

Therefore, this ingredient is more of a performance-enhancing ingredient that gives the body more energy.

  1. Boron

Boron, a trace mineral, enhances men’s health by boosting metabolism and bone growth. Its ability to bind with estradiol, which inhibits testosterone production, makes it a popular ingredient in testosterone-boosting supplements.

By binding to estradiol, and acting as estrogen blocker, Boron allows more testosterone to be produced naturally.

The Nugenix Total T has a decent amount of Boron, adding up to around 10 mg, which is more than what other T-Boosting Supplements offer. This gives the Nugenix Total T an extra point in comparison to other testosterone supplements.

Nugenix Total-T User Reviews

For a more insightful analysis of any supplement aimed at boosting testosterone levels or enhancing performance, it would have been ideal if users had documented their progress and changes in hormonal balance, T levels through regular lab tests or detailing energy levels.

In the absence of such detailed records, our next best approach is to examine user reviews posted on various e-commerce websites to evaluate if Nugenix Total-T delivers on its promises. Let’s explore this further.

Positive User Reviews

Review 1 – I have to say I noticed a big difference after a week.

I was initially doubtful about this product due to the reviews and my past experiences with similar products. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed a substantial change in my mood and energy levels after a week of taking Nugenix. Even when I stopped taking it for two weeks to see if the results were just a fluke, I found myself feeling the difference. As a result, I am reordering the product and will continue to do so until I no longer need it.

Review 2 – One of the best supplements

One of the best supplements for men over 40. It’s expensive but it works. Increased mental focus, drive and stamina.

Review 3 – Experienced all the claims made in the commercials

Started using this a couple years ago. Have always enjoyed the benefits. I have experienced all the claims made in the commercials. Recently took a 3 month break from taking these. I noticed. Took about a month and I began to feel a bit slower and my zest for my wife slipped to where I noticed. I also noticed that extra little bump at the bottom of my shirt again. Life is back to normal and I feel great. I would definitely recommend giving this product a try if you are off age and in need.

Negative User Reviews

Review 1

Guys, these products are not what they claim to be. Yes this has things In it that make you feel good over time. I tried these out for over four months. Nothing changed. I went to an actual Mens’ clinic and got tested for low t. After 4 months of this my levels were very low. It didn’t change anything.

Review 2

Took it for 90 days and had absolutely no improvement in ease of moving, energy. Just another scam product

Review 3

It seemed to be working and I was excited, but I had to stop because I constantly smelled like syrup because of the fenugreek. I wish they had this product without fenugreek, or maybe with a lower dose. My hands would reek of syrup, and then my body in general started to get an odor when I’d sweat. I looked up the reason and found out it was the fenugreek. So now I’m returning and trying to obtain the main ingredients separately.

Nugenix Total-T side effects

The ingredients in Nugenix Total-T are all natural, and should be safe for most people. Go through the product label to ensure you don’t have allergy to any specific ingredient. For more information on ingredients & their interactions with any drugs you might be taking, refer to mayoclinic.com or webmd.com.

Nugenix Ultimate might have certain side effects for some men as it contains Epimedium which is known to cause nausea, headache, high blood pressure in some cases.

Does Nugenix work like Viagra?

While Nugenix Total-T is unlikely to work like Viagra, Nugenix Ultimate has some ingredients like Maca, Epimedium (20% icariins, PDE5 inhibitor) which can provide some Viagra like effects, albeit weaker. The supplement needs to be taken daily and given at least a week’s time to notice benefits.

Conclusion

After putting all things into consideration, the Nugenix Total-T is a relatively good choice among T-boosting supplements.

It stands out from the other supplements in the market by including natural aphrodisiacs and performance-enhancers as well as a clear, transparent label. It also gets an extra point for making sure all its ingredients’ benefits are well-documented in research, the antioxidant blend in this should help men with low energy & motivation.

Nugenix Total-T includes vitamins and minerals known to improve energy and cognitive performance, possibly due to indirect testosterone-boosting effects.

While minerals like Boron and Zinc are fitting, the 1 mg of Zinc and 100 mg of Tongkat Ali per daily dose are underwhelming compared to the body’s needs and other products.

Though a good starting point for newcomers to testosterone boosters, more potent options like TestoPrime and Nugenix Ultimate may work better.
