5 Does Optimum Nutrition Protein Energy Offer Good Value for Money?

    Introduction

Help fuel your day your active lifestyle doesn’t leave much time to spare. Now there’s a convenient solution to help fuel your day with whey protein and caffeine from natural sources.

Optimum Nutrition Protein energy is a high-quality protein supplement combining 3 different wheys into one, and is ideal first thing in the morning, late in the afternoon or anytime you feel the need.

The combination of Whey Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate, and Whey Protein Hydrolysate means that you will be reaping the benefits that all three of these slightly different proteins have to offer, helping you to keep hunger at bay for a great deal longer between meals.

    Ingredients

20 g protein stacked with 120 mg of caffeine – about as much as a 10 oz cup of coffee. Each 2-scoop serving also gives green tea extract, vitamins b6 and b12 and antioxidant vitamin e to help fuel your day. With just 100 calories, 1 g of carbs and less than that of sugar, protein energy is the perfect complement for anytime you need fuel and energy.

    Review 1

    —-Introduction—-
I usually hit the gym at night after work, but recently I’ve had a lot of demand for events after work and have needed to add morning lifts to compensate for the lost time in the evenings. The first few days were pretty rough trying to supplement as I usually do and obtain a lift that rivals what I usually can do at night. I started looking for protein/caffeine combos and stumbled upon this stuff from Optimum Nutrition, a company I use regularly and trust. It was very inexpensive compared to comparable products so I decided it was worth a shot. It doesn’t have an ingredient label that is going to raise any eyebrows, but for what I needed it fit in well. Ultimately, I am very happy with what seems to be another no bells-and-whistles, predictable and reliable product from Optimum Nutrition. I regularly gravitate to their products because there are so many offerings and their prices are usually among the most competitive. They’re rarely the “best”, but you always know what you’re going to get, and I simply trust them to be honest with their labeling and product claims. This would not be the whey protein that I’d recommend to someone who’s planning to consume their body weight in grams. There are simply better, simpler proteins available– both from this manufacturer and others. What this should be used for in my opinion is a supplemental protein to your normal staple that can be used when you need a little energy at work, at school, or like me, need a pick me up first thing in the morning before lifting.
    —-Ingredient Profile—-
This is one of the more complex ingredient labels I have seen on protein recently, so I’m not crazy about that. However, ON is a reliable brand that I do trust, and most of the additional ingredients are aimed at providing energy. Niacin, B6 and B12 are all common ingredients for energy shots like 5-hour energy. Thiamin and Riboflavin are also B vitamins, but to my knowledge they aren’t usually affiliated with energy; Vitamin E is usually not touted as an energy provider either, but is certainly good to have for its role as an antioxidant. Each scoop contains 10g of Protein and 110mg of caffeine, along with 50 calories and <.4g of sugar, and there are 52 scoops per bag. Others: Vitamin E (15IU), Thiamin (3mg), Riboflavin (3.4mg), Niacin (40mg), B6 (4mg), and B12 (12mg). Caffeine appears to be derived from green tea. Sweetened with sucralose.
    —-Taste/Mixability/Dosing—-
Two scoops into a few ounces of skim milk and it tastes incredible. Liquid Cinnamon Bun– pretty much spot on. No complaints at all besides wishing I could have some more. It mixes easily with a spoon and has minimal clumping. Mostly small chunks if any. Not a problem at all, since they taste so good anyway. 1 scoop for 10g protein, 110mg caffeine. You’ll probably want to take 2.
    —-Effectiveness—-
This is not a knock your socks of PWO or indispensable whey protein for recovery and building muscle, but it gets rid of the morning fuzz and lines your stomach so you can keep down any other supplements you usually take in the morning. I’ve found that morning lifts have fewer distractions naturally because of fewer people being around you and not having a days worth of thoughts stuck in your head. Because of this I don’t need to worry so much about supplementing with something to help keep the focus to really get in a good lift. I use this product for simple reasons: a little boost, and a little something in my stomach. That’s really all it does. It’s not the most potent source of protein in the world, but it kicks off the day with 20 quick grams before the sun is up (assuming 2 scoops).

    —-Value—-

At Amazon this costs $19.99. Technically a serving is 1 scoop, but I think most people will want 2. That means you’ll be getting 52 or 26 servings respectively. Even with 2 scoops you’re under $1/serving which is very good– especially for a protein/caffeine combo.

    —-Side Effects—-
    None

    —-Conclusion—-
ON’s Protein Energy is a simple energizer protein. A comparable product like Java Whey by Nutrabio provides a lot more in terms of multivitamin offerings, as well as isolates, but when I consider what I’m taking this for, the cost comparison, and the taste, I’d lean in this direction. It has no isolates, and the label seems to have a lot of superfluous ingredients, but nothing that I’d generally be trying to avoid, and for the price I wouldn’t expect isolates. It does the job and gives me what I need to be able to put in work. It makes the morning more of an opportunity and less of a struggle– that’s enough for me.

    Review2

I’ve purchased probably 20 bags of this stuff, it’s on my rotation and is one of my favorites for a few reasons. So this specific protein is formulated specifically for protein + energy (like the bag says) so it works best when taken in the morning as a meal replacement. So if you’re someone who has trouble with the desire to eat breakfast then this shake is perfect for you! It is very filling, keeps me full until lunch (I drink this shake at 8am and eat lunch at noon) It’s also good to have handy in case you snooze your alarm and wake up late (I’m the queen of doing just that) and I absolutely cannot skip breakfast, so I’ll pop a scoop of this in my shaker bottle with some almond milk and voila! Really amazing flavor too, the mocha cappuccino is my favorite but I love the cinnamon roll one, chocolate & vanilla ones as well. Mocha cappuccino mixed with vanilla almond milk really does taste like chocolate milk so this product is quite wonderful in all aspects. When

I first began dieting 4 years ago this shake was part of my morning ritual every single morning and along with clean eating & exercise I went from 198.6 lbs to 142.2 lbs!

This has been sitting in my cart for a few months now, and I finally decided to order it and try it–I’m SO glad I did! This is the best tasting protein drink I’ve ever had. My body naturally does not have enough energy to get me through the day, and I take several supplements to combat that. However, this drink alone has given me a tremendous amount of energy; I feel like I can accomplish anything! I use 2% milk with it, but am thinking about trying other options such as almond milk, water, etc. for healthier options. This is the PERFECT morning protein drink when you don’t have time (or don’t want to make the time) to eat a full breakfast in the morning. I highly recommend ordering this!!

    Review4
I was skeptical of the taste because I have had some bad experiences with chalky, lumpy protein powders in the past. A coworker recommended it to me last week and I decided to give it a try. First of all, this is a big bag for the price.

Definitely an amazing deal. I put it in just water and it. is. amazing….It dissolves amazingly, is not chalky at all, and the flavor is spot on. The mocha is not super strong. It tastes like someone took coffee and put hot chocolate mix in it (which is how I make my hot chocolate!) Super pleased. It is sweetened with sucralose, which should be noted, because not everyone can deal with that. Usually sucralose in sports drinks gives me a massive headache, but with this mix, no problem for me. Definitely recommend. Gonna go check out more flavors….I heard there was birthday cake flavored……

    Other useful information

This product’s taste is basically always good and exactly as you would expect.

The most fundamental benefit of Optimum Nutrition Protein Energy is its three-level blend of proteins that we mentioned above.

The combination of Whey Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate, and Whey Protein Hydrolysate means that you will be reaping the benefits that all three of these slightly different proteins have to offer, helping you to keep hunger at bay for a great deal longer between meals.

If you have ever use a stand-alone Whey Protein Isolate or Whey Protein Hydrolysate supplement in you are probably well aware of how quickly they digestive and how soon after you begin to feel hungry; for many people this occurs less than an hour after drinking their protein shakes!

Optimum Nutrition Protein Energy effectively solves this problem by combining the extremely fast-digesting proteins with a slower-digesting.

On top of this, Optimum Nutrition has added Caffeine and Green Tea Extract, both of which offer their own appetite suppressing benefits to further pronounce the overall satiating effects of this product.

Of course we are all aware of the stimulant effects of Caffeine, and Green Tea Extract itself is a potent thermogenic compound and fat burner that should greatly help any of you who are currently trying to shed excess body fat.

Speaking of dieting, it can be very easy to become deficient in certain nutrients when you are eating in a caloric deficit, so Optimum Nutrition Protein Energy includes added Vitamin E and B Vitamins to cover your nutritional bases and help promote everyday health and well-being.

Does Optimum Nutrition Protein Energy Offer Good Value for Money?

Optimum Nutrition Protein Energy is probably best looked at as a luxury item because it is certainly not designed for those of you who are currently operating on a tight budget; this includes complete beginners who want a simple protein powder that won’t break the bank.

Whenever you purchase and Optimum Nutrition product you can almost always guarantee that you will be receiving some of the best quality ingredients that the supplement industry has to offer, but context is always important when making a decision on a product like this.

It probably won’t taste as good but you could save money by buying a cheaper chocolate-flavored protein powder such as Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey and adding a couple of spoonfuls of instant coffee to the mix there’s your caffeine fix right there!
