So one of my coaching client sent me a screenshot of the label last asking if I thought the 8-capsule serving size was a red flag or a green flag. It’s a fair question, and the honest answer is “it depends on what’s in the 8 capsules.” So let’s take a look, because there’s actually a lot to talk about here, both good and bad, and this product occupies a specific position in the market that’s worth understanding before you spend $60 on it.
Same drill as with the other reviews in this series. Ingredient by ingredient, dose by dose, comparison against competitors, real-world reports where I have them, and honest recommendation at the end.
Where MetaTest Sits in the Market
Before the label breakdown, let me put this in context because the pricing tells you something. At $60 monthly, MetaTest is priced at the top of the natural testosterone booster category. Here’s how it compares to some other similar products I’ve reviewed in this stretch:

So MetaTest is at SuperHuman Test’s price (without SuperHuman’s subscription option), and significantly more expensive than Alpha JYM at nearly double the price. The question then becomes: does what’s in the bottle justify the premium?
The MetaTest Label
Per 8-capsule serving, 30 servings per bottle:
Vitamin D3 at 3,000 IU, Zinc as zinc aspartate at 8 mg, Magnesium as magnesium L-aspartate at 48 mg, then the “Metabolic Testosterone Amplifier” at 4,615 mg total, which breaks down as: D-Aspartic Acid at 3,000 mg, Fenugreek (60% saponins) at 600 mg, Quercetin (95%) at 200 mg, Eurycoma longifolia (100:1 extract) at 200 mg, DIM at 200 mg, Pine Bark extract (95% proanthocyanidins) at 120 mg, Mucuna Pruriens (standardized to L-Dopa) at 100 mg, DHEA at 100 mg, Coleus Forskohlii at 50 mg, Acacetin at 40 mg, and Black Pepper Extract at 5 mg.
Eight capsules per serving. Let me be direct about that: 8 capsules is a lot. This is the highest capsule count of any product I’ve reviewed. But that’s the price you pay for hitting real doses of a lot of ingredients, but it’s also a compliance killer for a lot of guys. If you can’t remember to take 8 capsules daily, this bottle doesn’t matter what’s in it.
Now let me go through the ingredients.
The DHEA (100 mg)
This is the ingredient that makes MetaTest a different animal from most of the other products in this series. 100 mg of DHEA is a real, therapeutic dose. Compare to M Drive Prime’s 5 mg (homeopathic DHEA dose) or the DHEA-free formulas everywhere else. 100 mg is in the range that actually shifts steroid hormone precursor levels in older men and produces measurable effects.
Whether this is a good thing depends on who you are. DHEA is a hormone, not a vitamin. It’s a testosterone precursor, but it also aromatizes to estrogen, and in the wrong men at the wrong dose, 100 mg DHEA can push estradiol higher rather than lower. It can also affect prostate health markers, and in men with hormone-sensitive conditions, this is not a “just try it” ingredient.
Had a client take DHEA at 100 mg sublingually (this is the dose he was recommended for muscle building purposes when he was younger) and describe classic androgenic-adjacent effects: oilier skin, more aggression, higher libido, real hormonal changes. That’s what 100 mg does. It’s not homeopathic. It’s not filler. It’s a functional hormone dose.
The formulation logic in MetaTest is: give men a real DHEA dose (100 mg) to nudge upstream steroid production, add DIM (200 mg) to manage the estrogen conversion that will follow, and stack aromatase-adjacent compounds (acacetin at 40 mg, pine bark at 120 mg for antioxidant support) around it.
That’s a coherent formulation strategy. It’s also more aggressive than what most competitor bottles are doing.
My concern: DHEA at 100 mg is not appropriate for men under 40 in most cases, is not appropriate for men with prostate concerns, is not appropriate for men with any hormone-sensitive conditions, and should really be dosed based on DHEA-S bloodwork rather than a one-size-fits-all label.
The bottle doesn’t tell you any of this. That’s a genuine safety concern for a product sold over the counter.
The D-Aspartic Acid (3,000 mg)
Same story as EVL Test. The 2009-2011 DAA studies from the Italian labs got a lot of attention, and follow-up work in resistance-trained men since 2013 has been mixed to negative. DAA at 3,000 mg matches the study doses, but the outcomes in real bodies are inconsistent. Some men see modest T bumps for a few weeks, others see no change, and some see compensatory estradiol elevation via aromatase upregulation.
Combined with the DHEA (which also aromatizes) and the 600 mg of fenugreek (which affects DHT), MetaTest is a formulation that produces a lot of hormonal signaling.
The DIM at 200 mg is there specifically to manage what’s likely coming, which is elevated estradiol from the DAA and DHEA. Whether the DIM keeps up is variable.
The Tongkat Ali (200 mg 100:1 extract)
Same as SuperHuman Test. 200 mg 100:1 extract is a real starter dose. Not standardized to eurycomanone on the label, which is my recurring complaint across this whole review series. I want the eurycomanone percentage disclosure. 100:1 extraction ratio tells you the concentration factor but not the bioactive content.
That said, 200 mg is in the range where Tongkat Ali can produce real effects. Had a client on 200 mg of a properly standardized (2% eurycomanone) Tongkat Ali daily for six weeks move his total T from 582 to 654 and free T from 102 to 116.
Another client at 400 mg went from 900 to 1,300 ng/dL. These are dose-responsive results, and MetaTest at 200 mg is at the lower end of the responsive range.
The Fenugreek (600 mg at 60% saponins)
At 60% saponins, this is a legitimately standardized fenugreek dose. Compare to M Drive Elite’s 450 mg unstandardized. 600 mg at 60% saponins gives you 360 mg of saponins, which is a real dose.
Same caveats as always with fenugreek: acts as a mild 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor (lowers DHT), can elevate prolactin in some men, produces the maple-syrup body odor in some men. If you’re chasing masculine androgen effects (libido, aggression, muscle protein synthesis via DHT), fenugreek can work against you.
If you’re chasing “total testosterone” numbers on a lab panel, it might help those go up while your DHT goes down. Real ingredient with real tradeoffs.
The Mucuna Pruriens (100 mg standardized to L-Dopa)
Mucuna Pruriens is standardized to L-Dopa, which is a dopamine precursor. This is not really a testosterone ingredient in the traditional sense. It’s a dopamine-signaling ingredient. Elevated dopamine can suppress prolactin (which itself suppresses testosterone), so there’s a downstream benefit. Real evidence for improved mood, motivation, and libido via dopamine effects.
Interesting inclusion. Not what I’d call a testosterone booster ingredient, but coherent within the “male performance and libido” theme.
100 mg with unspecified L-Dopa percentage is a moderate dose. Would like to see the standardization number.
The Coleus Forskohlii (50 mg)
Forskolin (from Coleus forskohlii) has some data on testosterone and body composition, mostly from one Godard study in overweight men. 50 mg is on the low end. Studies typically use 250 mg standardized to 10% forskolin (giving 25 mg forskolin). MetaTest’s 50 mg with unspecified forskolin percentage is a marketing bullet.
The Pine Bark and Acacetin
Pine bark extract at 120 mg standardized to 95% proanthocyanidins is a real antioxidant dose with vascular effects. Not directly a testosterone ingredient but supports circulation and nitric oxide signaling.
Acacetin at 40 mg is an aromatase-inhibiting flavonoid. Some in vitro evidence for reducing estrogen conversion. 40 mg is a reasonable dose but human data is limited.
The Zinc, Magnesium, and D3
Zinc at 8 mg is a low dose, and it’s in aspartate form (legacy ZMA choice, not the well-absorbed bisglycinate). Compare to SuperHuman Test’s 30 mg Albion bisglycinate. This is a significant downgrade in ingredient form quality.
Magnesium at 48 mg is a genuinely low dose. Should be 300-400 mg for real cortisol and sleep effects. Form and dose both matter, and MetaTest is weak on both.
Vitamin D3 at 3,000 IU is meaningful. Similar to SuperHuman Test. This will actually move a mildly deficient man’s D3 levels. Credit here.
What My Clients Have Reported on MetaTest
One of my course students ran MetaTest for a full cycle and his summary was direct: “I think it is one of the better testosterone boosting products out there, but its price is a drawback, as well as the serving of 8 capsules.” That’s the honest response. The formula delivers, but the compliance burden and cost are real barriers.
Compare against my Tongkat Ali client tracking on comparable doses: 582 to 654 total T with real free T shift in six weeks. That’s the ingredient combination MetaTest contains doing what it’s supposed to do in a responsive body. The DHEA at 100 mg adds another mechanism of action that most competitor bottles skip entirely.
What’s Missing
No boron. Same complaint as lot of other reviews. Boron at 9-12 mg reliably moves free T and its absence from a “premium” testosterone booster at $60 is a formulation choice, not an oversight. SuperHuman Test has it. MetaTest doesn’t. That’s a real gap at this price point.
No ashwagandha. Odd. The one ingredient with strong recent evidence for cortisol reduction and modest T bump, and it’s not in the formula. Suggests the formulator went aggressive on DHEA and DAA and skipped the cortisol side of the equation entirely.
Weak magnesium form and dose. Should be baseline.
Weak zinc form (aspartate at 8 mg is legacy ZMA territory, not modern hormone optimization).
My Honest Take on MetaTest
MetaTest is the aggressive-formulation product in this category. Where SuperHuman Test is the “well-formulated conservative stack” and Alpha JYM is the “reasonable one-bottle starter,” MetaTest is the “throw everything at the wall including a real DHEA dose” product. It’s more aggressive than any other product in this review series.
Whether that aggression is a feature or a bug depends on who you are. For a 45+ man with declining DHEA-S on bloodwork, who understands he’s taking a hormone precursor, who has done a proper baseline hormone panel, and who wants a more aggressive natural intervention before considering TRT or enclomiphene, MetaTest could be a legitimate step up from the milder bottles.
For a 30-year-old with basically normal hormones who thinks he needs a stronger booster, MetaTest is potentially inappropriate because 100 mg DHEA at his age is not a supplementation decision, it’s a hormone precursor decision that should involve bloodwork and ideally a doctor.
The compliance burden is real. 8 capsules daily is a lot to remember. The price is real. $60 monthly is expensive. And the ingredient form quality is uneven (great fenugreek standardization, weak zinc and magnesium forms).
3.5 out of 5. Same rating as Alpha JYM but for different reasons. Alpha JYM is a competent conservative stack. MetaTest is an aggressive stack with real doses of ingredients that most competitors underdose or skip, but with genuine safety concerns around the DHEA and formulation weaknesses in the mineral base.
Who Should Try MetaTest
- Men 45+ with declining DHEA-S confirmed on bloodwork who want a more aggressive natural intervention before TRT
- Experienced supplement users who’ve tried the milder options (Alpha JYM, M Drive Prime, EVL Test) and gotten little response, and who want to try a more aggressive formulation
- Men who understand DHEA is a hormone and are comfortable with the tradeoffs (potential estrogen conversion, potential prostate effects at higher doses)
- Men who can commit to the 8-capsule daily protocol without missing doses
Who Should Skip MetaTest
- Men under 40 in most cases. The 100 mg DHEA dose is not appropriate for younger men whose own DHEA production is still robust
- Men with hair loss risk. The DHEA plus fenugreek plus Tongkat Ali combination is a lot of androgen and androgen-adjacent signaling
- Men with prostate concerns or any hormone-sensitive conditions. See a doctor before touching this bottle
- Men who haven’t done the four lifestyle things yet. No aggressive formulation outperforms fixing sleep, food, training frequency, and stress management
- Men on tight budgets. At $60 monthly with no subscription option, this is expensive relative to standalone stacks that can outperform it
- Men who want the safest, most conservative option. SuperHuman Test is my recommendation for that profile
- Men with fenugreek sensitivity or prolactin concerns
- Men on any medications that interact with dopamine (mucuna pruriens signaling can matter here) or hormone precursors
Bottom Line
MetaTest is the most aggressive off-the-shelf natural testosterone booster in this review series, and it delivers what it claims to deliver: real doses of real ingredients, including a functional DHEA dose that most competitors skip or homeopathically underdose.
But aggression cuts both ways.
At 100 mg DHEA plus 3,000 mg DAA plus 600 mg fenugreek plus 200 mg Tongkat Ali, this is a formulation that produces real hormonal signaling, and the safety considerations that come with that (prostate, hair loss risk, estrogen conversion, appropriate age range) are not clearly communicated on the label.
At $60 monthly with 8 capsules daily, it’s expensive and inconvenient. But if you’re the right buyer (45+, informed, aware of the DHEA implications, done the lifestyle work already), it’s a legitimate more-aggressive step than the milder bottles I’ve covered.
If you’re not the right buyer, SuperHuman Test is my recommendation instead. And regardless, get a proper baseline hormone panel before you start, and another at 10-12 weeks.
